JUNIOR MATCH REPORTS

11/02/12

The under 12 team played four matches at today’s tournament in Wells.  With accurate shooting and great defense, the team supported each other well.  Lovely centre court play from the youngsters, including many interceptions, helped the team to 3 wins against Purnell (7 – 1), Bridgwater 3 (6 – 0), Paulton (7 – 3) and 1 loss against Galmington (8 – 3).

The under 16 team played in this tournament knowing that they could take the runner up position in the league if they won one of their two games.  The first game was against Wells, and was a very tight game, with first Sydenham taking the lead, then Wells.  At one point, Wells held a 5 goal lead, but the Sydenham players were determined to bring themselves back into the game, and with fabulous play from all players, they won the game 27 – 24.  Their second game was against Galmington who have not yet lost a match in the league, and unfortunately, Sydenham were unable to stop them on this occasion either, with Galmington winning 27 – 6.  However, Sydenham have finished the league in second place

15/01/12

A tough tournament for both u12 teams today.  The B team continued in good spirit, playing teams who are at least a school year older than they are.  They continue to gain great experience playing in regular tournaments, and their confidence is raising.  The A team, also struggled today, winning one, drawing one and losing three games.

The u16 team, had a great first game against Wells.  This was the first time this season that the teams have met in the league, and Sydenham won the game 18 - 15, thanks to great play by all players.  The second game against Yeovil was also a great confidence booster, winning 16 - 6.

04/12/11

The final tournament of 2011 took place at the Blue School today.  The u16 team started with a tough game against Galmington, and with several of their players missing, the team struggled against taller opponents.  There were good individual performances, but the team lost the game 29 - 6.  Their second game was against Yeovil, and the team had a much better match.  Interceptions from players helped to keep the ball in Sydenham’s end, to win the game 17 - 5.

The u12 teams both played this weekend too.  The A team had some tough matches against strong opponents, but did win against Paulton and lost to Bridgwater, Yeovil, Galmington and Bridgwater 2.

The B team had great match experience, but lost their games, however, enjoyed the day, despite the downpour towards the end of the morning.

Well done to all players who took part.

05/11/11

Both age groups played in the tournament today at Wells Blue School.  The u16 team played strongly against Purnells to win 23 - 9, with good team effort from all the players.

The second game was against Bridgwater, with another close game for the team, but Sydenham could not quite keep in touch with their friends from school who were playing for the Bridgwater club, and lost 12 - 7.

Players taking part were: Paige Pople, Kerry Clark, Megan Walford, Leanne Wegg, Chelsie Coombes, Kira Shapter, Georgia Edmudson, Tanisha Birch and Dominique Creedy.

The u12s also played today, and this was their first outing of the season.  The first team started well, with a good win against Wells, but unfortunately were not able to sustain this performance against Yeovil 2, Tor or Galmington 2, however, pulled back for the last game of the day against Sydenham 2, securing a win.

The u12s second team, had some tough matches against strong opponents - most of whom were a school year older than the Sydenham girls.  They lost to Yeovil 2, Paulton, Purnell, Bridgwater 2, and Sydenham 1.

Girls taking part were: Grace Morris, Katie Rowles, Kirsty Richards, Kirsty Kilday, Georgia Milburn, Jess Bull, Tilly Milburn, Juliet Ainsworth, Jess Stewart, Beth Ousef, Brittney Freeman, Connie Henderson, Paige Currie, Emily Bridges and Jade Firkins.

09/10/11

U16s played two games today, against Bridgwater 1.  Although they lost 10 - 8, the Sydenham players put in a good performance.  Working well with each other, but the team missed the height in the defending circle.

The second game was against Tor, again a close game, with the Sydenham players pushing all the way, however Tor won 17 - 12.

Players for this tournament were Paige Pople, Megan Walford, Tanisha Birch, Georgia Edmundson, Leanne Wegg, Dominique Creedy, Kerry Clark, Millie Burridge and Chelsie Coombes.

25/9/11

Sydenham u16 team had their first outing on a wet and cold September morning - when the weather forecast had promised a pleasant day!

The team performed well, changing positions to allow all players to get some match experience.  There were 8 games in all, to determine which 2 teams would represent Somerset in the Regional league.  Sydenham finished 4th, winning several matches, but losing 4 key games.  The team will now continue to play in the Somerset League on a monthly basis.

Chilcompton and Bridgwater NC s are wished every good luck in the Regional league.
