Sydenham Junior Netballers attended their final league tournament of the season in Wells on 3rd February 2013.

The u16 team had a tough game against a strong Wells team, who are currently at the top of the u16 table.  Despite strong play throughout the court, Wells ran away with the game 35 – 9.  Players included Amber Lovell, Tanisha Birch, Hannah Wallis, Georgia Edmundson, Nic Elkins, Sophie Butt, Molly Gould, Millie Burridge and Chelsie Coombes.

The u14 team had another excellent day, playing very strongly to win all their matches – 7 – 2 against Tor, 2 – 1 against Wells 3 and 11 – 2 against Paulton.  A great final tournament for the following players – Rheanne Lee, Grace Morris, Melissa Ainsworth, Kirsty Richards, Tilly Milburn, Katie Rowles and Kim Parr.

The u12 team also had a great day playing 5 games, winning against Purnell 2 (14-1), Taunton (8 – 5) and Purnell 1 (11 – 1), drawing with Wells 2 (7 all), and narrowly losing to Yeovil (3 – 2).  This team of you players have worked hard to achieve their success today.  Well done to Yazmin Thomas, Hannah Ainsworth, Kirsty Kilday, Holly Holder, Lily Paul, Paige Currie, Jess Bull, Annie Griffin and Georgia Wilton.

Thanks to Lynne Cornish, Amy Witcombe and Shell Parr for umpiring today.

The players are now looking forward to playing the end of season tournament on 3rd March to hopefully repeat some of their successes during the league.  Anyone wishing to join the club or have further information is asked to contact Christina Martin on 01278 421786

The u12 team consisting of Paige Currie, Jess Bull, Georgia Wilton, Annie Griffin, Yazmin Thomas, Hannah Ainsworth, Lily Paul and Holly Holder, won 2 games against Paulton and Bridgwater 2, and lost 3 games against teams at the top of the league table – Bridgwater 1, Galmington and Wells 1.  But a good day for all the girls.

The u14 had a fabulous day, winning all 4 games against Wells 2, Bridgwater 3, Purnell 2 and Yeovil 3 in the u14 B tournament.  Well done to Lucie McDowell, Rheanne Lee, Melissa Ainsworth, Kirsty Richards, Tilly Milburn, Katie Rowles and Kim Parr.

The u16 team had mixed fortunes winning their first match against Wells 2 23- 10, but losing their second match against a strong Yeovil team 23 – 9.  Nonetheless, the girls are on course to finish in the top half of the table.  Congratulations to Sophie Butt, Migle Praninskaite, Nicky Elkins, Tanisha Birch, Georgia Edmundson, Mia Bennett, Millie Burridge, Amber Lovell and Hannah Wallis.

The third tournament was held on 2nd December.

The u16 team had a tough match against a strong Purnell side, and although they did not give up at any point, they lost the fixture 31 - 18.

The u14 team had two league games - drawing one and losing the other.  They also had a friendly against Wells 2, which they lost, however, they persevered throughout their games and displayed some great netball.

The u12 team were missing a player due to illness, so played the first game against Purnell as a friendly (6 aside).  They stayed strong throughout the game and won 4 - 1.  They then borrowed a player from other teams, and continued in the tournament and played their games as friendlies.  Although they won their final game against Wells, it did not count for the league purposes.

The second tournament took place on 11/11/12, and saw the u12 team play their first matches.  With Jade Firkins, Yazmin Thomas, Paige Currie, Jess Bull, Jasmine Gill, Kirsty Kilday and Hannah Ainsworth.  The team played 5 games, winning two of them.  A good start to their competition.

The u16 team had a very close and exiting game against Tor, which was level all the way through, with Tor taking the match by a goal in the last minute.  Team included, Millie Burridge, Molly Gould, Hannah Wallis, Sophie Butt, Georgia Edmundson, Tanisha Birch and Nicky Elkins.

14/10/12

The u16s played an excellent game against Purnell 2. Leading the game in the first quarter, Purnell fought back to just one goal behind, with Sydenham leading 9 - 8 at half time. Sydenham took their eye off the ball during the third quarter allowing Purnell to move into a 16 -11 lead. Refocussed for the final quarter, Sydenham played strongly to reduce the deficit, with excellent defending from Chelsie Coombes and Molly Gould, intercepting many passes, and pressuring the Purnell shooters into errors. Meanwhile, Tanisha Birch and Millie Burridge began to find the net with ease, edging Sydenham back into the lead. With a thrilling final ten minutes, Sydenham won the game 23 - 11. Well done to all players which also included Nicky Elkins, Migle Praninskaite, Georgia Edmundson, Sophie Butt and Hannah Wallis.

The u14 tournament started today with a competition to split the teams into two leagues. The team from Sydenham is a young team and will play in the lower competition, but they started with a great win against Wells 3, but then came across teams who will undoubtably be playing in the higher u14 league for the remainder of the season, unfortunately losing all 3 matches. Their final game should have been much closer, but with only 6 players, the team fought well to remain close to their opponents, but unfortunately with an injury during the game, Sydenham lost this game as well. Well done to all the players - Talia Meare, Georgia Milburn, Yazmin Thomas, Kirsty Richards, Paige Currie, Katie Rowles and Kim Parr.
